Supermodes in multiple coupled photonic crystal waveguides.
We analyze the supermodes in multiple coupled photonic crystal waveguides for long-wavelengths. In the tight-binding limit we obtain analytic results that agree with fully numerical calculations. We find that when the field flips sign after a single photonic crystal period, and there is an odd number of periods between adjacent waveguides, the supermode order is reversed, compared to that in co...
متن کاملCoupled photonic crystal waveguides in hexagonal lattices
We investigate the dispersion curves of coupled waveguides in hexagonal lattices. We show that hexagonal PCW lattices have coupling coefficients that change magnitude and sign along the BZ. It is also shown that the modes of these structures no longer form odd and even modes but are superposed in a more general sense. متن کاملModes of coupled photonic crystal waveguides.
We consider the modes of coupled photonic crystal waveguides. We find that the fundamental modes of these structures can be either even or odd, in contrast with the behavior in coupled conventional waveguides, in which the fundamental mode is always even. We explain this finding using an asymptotic model that is valid for long wavelengths.
متن کاملOptical trirefringence in photonic crystal waveguides.
We demonstrate that 2D photonic crystals can possess optical trirefringence in which there are six field orientations for which linear incident light is not perturbed on reflection or transmission. Such a property is rigorously forbidden in homogeneous nonmagnetic dielectrics which can possess only optical birefringence. We experimentally demonstrate this phenomena in silicon-based mesostructur...
متن کاملLinear waveguides in photonic-crystal slabs
Linear waveguides in photonic-crystal slabs, two-dimensionally periodic dielectric structures of finite height, are fundamentally different from waveguides in two-dimensional photonic crystals. The most important distinctions arise from the fact that photonic-crystal slab waveguides must be index-confined in the vertical direction ~while a band gap confines them horizontally!. We present a syst...
